Emergency services
Medical services provided to patients for conditions arising, often unexpectedly, and that need immediate medical attention such as an acute illness or injury. These services are given in a hospital emergency department 24 hours a day. The Joint Commission accreditation manual lists three levels: I, II, and III. Emergency Transport and Hotel Expenses Riders for Motor Insurance
In the event of the insured vehicle being damaged in an accident rendering it unusable, the cost of hotel accommodation at nearest city and return to home including taxi fare will be allowed under this extension provided there is a valid claim under the policy for this accident. The sum insured for this add-on to be decided in advance varying between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000 and per occurrence limit will not exceed 50% of sum insured. Variations of this cover are offered by various insurers and differences are on the basis of sum insured, time limitations, distance limitations, excluding perils like riot and strike, flood, earthquake.

In workers’ compensation cases, medical treatment required by an injured employee immediately after an industrial injury or illness, which if delayed, could decrease the likelihood of maximum recovery.

Treatment by qualified medical practitioner to an injured party following a vehicular accident on a road or public place. The Road Traffic Act compels the vehicle user to pay a specified fee and mileage expenses to the practitioner who first attends, a liability that must be insured under the motor insurance. Any payment made by this provision will not affect the insured’s entitlement to no claim discount.
Emergent care
Treatment for a medical condition or symptom (e.g., pruritus from poison oak or poison ivy or severe pain) that arises, often unexpectedly, and needs immediate attention.
Emergent condition
Any physical state of a patient that needs immediate medical care, is possibly life threatening, and may be harmful if treatment is postponed.
