Vis Major

Act of God. This has been defined as an event due to ‘natural causes Directly and exclusively without human intervention.’ Examples of acts of God are storms, earthquake, lightning etc.

Vishing

The fraudulent practice of making phone calls or leaving voice messages purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as bank details and credit card numbers. Aka Robocalls.

Visible means

Emphasises the importance to the insurer of restricting personal accident cover to bodily cause by accidental external means. Anything which is external is also visible. Exceptions to this strict meaning arise in connection with the accidental taking of poison or the inhaling of gas. If a person consumes poison when they intend to take a prescribed medicine, the act is at least visible and a fortuitous element is involved.

Vision care

Insurance coverage that provides benefits for preventive and corrective eye care and is usually offered with basic coverage (e.g., surgical and/or medical benefits).

Vision examination

Inspection of the eye by an optometrist or ophthalmologist that includes the case history, external examination, ophthalmoscopic examination, refractive status, binocular balance testing, glaucoma testing, and prescription for corrective lenses.
