Emergency treatment
In workers’ compensation cases, medical treatment required by an injured employee immediately after an industrial injury or illness, which if delayed, could decrease the likelihood of maximum recovery.
***
Treatment by qualified medical practitioner to an injured party following a vehicular accident on a road or public place. The Road Traffic Act compels the vehicle user to pay a specified fee and mileage expenses to the practitioner who first attends, a liability that must be insured under the motor insurance. Any payment made by this provision will not affect the insured’s entitlement to no claim discount.
Emergent care
Treatment for a medical condition or symptom (e.g., pruritus from poison oak or poison ivy or severe pain) that arises, often unexpectedly, and needs immediate attention.
Emergent condition
Any physical state of a patient that needs immediate medical care, is possibly life threatening, and may be harmful if treatment is postponed.

emerging healthcare organization (EHO)
Hospital or other provider that is affiliating or partnering.
EMFs Electromagnetic Fields
Nonionising radiation created by a flow of electricity. Manufactured EMFs, which have higher frequencies than those occurring from the earth’s magnetic field, can affect the body tissue. Direct evidence is lacking, but health risks linked with EMFs are: impairment of the immune system, reducing the ability of the white blood cells to kill tumour cells and fight disease; adverse effects on the central nervous system, brain and glands that are connected with cancers and other physical and emotional problems; influence on body’s control of cell growth; adverse effects on the skin. Magnetic fields are best dealt with by designing them out or shielding them at source. Employer’s risk assessments under MHSW should include EMFs.

Employability
In workers’ compensation cases, the ability of an individual to perform a job and meet the conditions of employment as defined by the employer.
Employee
MEDICAL,USA: 1. Person who performs a service for someone else under employment or contract for hire. A contract can be expressed or implied or oral or written. 2. Under Medicare Secondary Payer guidelines, this is defined as an individual who is working for an employer or an individual who, although not actually working for an employer, is receiving from an employer payments that are subject to Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes or would be subject to FICA taxes except that the employer is exempt from those taxes under the Internal Revenue Code (IRC).

UK: Anyone under a contract of service as opposed to a contract for services. The difficulty in making the distinction has led to the development of legal tests. To avoid legal disputes the insurer defines ’employee’ broadly in employers’ and public liability policies (the latter for the purpose of an exclusion). The definition extends to: labour gangs, sub-contractors, self-employed persons, persons hired or borrowed by the insured, volunteers, etc. The Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act definition is: ‘An individual who has entered into or works under a contract of service or apprenticeship with any employer, whether by way of manual labour, clerical work, or otherwise, whether such contract is expressed or implied, or oral or in writing.’ See EXEMPT EMPLOYEES; EMPLOYEE/EMPLOYER RELATIONSHIP.
***
One who performs services for another under a contract of hire; acting under the Direction and control of the person by whom he is hired.
