New Anime Series- Blood-C

First Episode Review for: Blood-C 01

Summary : Ninja Shrine Maiden, think traditional Japanese buffy the vampire slayer

Animation : Good nice contrast and high detail, very heavy on black and red, has a xxxholic feel about it (Un-surprising as they are both CLAMP anime)

Plot Potential: High, lots of potential for character growth and something dark going on at the back of it, it will be a case if they can get the thing going seriously by about the 5th episode so we have a series build up rather than the normal “movie at the end of a series”, in which they leave all their serious stuff to the last 3 episodes, if this happens you just know that it will not be an ongoing series.

Characters: Nothing new here but a nice mix of the normal school stock characters and the main character is a mix of total physical Klutz and Ninja, which you don’t often see happen without some physical Change, although the preying mantis Buddha statue was not one I recall seeing before

Music: very nice, good opening plus nice fight seen tunes.

Reminds me of: Clover(manga) , or if you insist on an anime somthing like Read or Die the TV Series (not the original OAV)

Overall: if they can get the plot going this will be fab, so it gets a rating of: “Next one now please!!”

id start with Ghost in the shell (the first movie), then the series (stand alone complex), if you give me some rough idea of the normal stuff you like, i can make better suggestions

What would be a good first step for beginners?

I occasionally buy some dvds (tekkonkinkreet and akira are the only ones I own), but I am not sure where one can buy/download animes.

And what would be a good start for a noob?

New Anime Series- Fate Zero

First Episode Review for: Fate Zero

Summary : Once in a generation the holy grail descends to earth to grant a single wish, Magus and their mystic servants fight for that wish (sort of like tag team highlander)

Animation : Good and detailed with particular reference to the excellent integration between the CGI and Normal animation which is a rarity, also the female eyes are very good in this series

Plot Potential: Competition/tournament plots are always well done in animes, and this has a much darker edge to it that the original fate stay night, on a side note as an Englishman I find it great when another nations mangle our countrys legends, I mean we do it enough to every other country so turn about is fair play

Characters: Amazingly lots of full formed characters appear in just one episode, there is no wasted time on this process and no fluff in the anime

Music: Nothing amazing but nice and mystic

Reminds me of: Again, go and watch the original Fate stay Night (there seem to be a lot of twists on an original series being released at the moment)

Overall: As enjoyable as the first series but a good deal darker and with far more intent in the lead fighters (rather than just bumbling though life), one to watch

New Mini Anime Series- Nyanpire , Morita san wa Mukuchi

Both these anime are under 4 mins in length, and done in a very basic nearly ‘flash’ level of animation, so I’m lumping them together

Morita-san wa Mukuchi
A very quiet girl is asked at school for her class notes… (yes I know but was only just over 2 mins long)

Nyanpire
An abandoned kitten is turned into a vampire, and now must seek blood….(quite funny with a music video tacked onto the end)

New Anime Series- C3 Cube x Cursed x Curious

First Episode Review for: C3 Cube x Cursed x Curious

Summary : A boy receives a large metal box that turns into a girl, who then turns out to be a cursed weapon powered by human fear, he guides her though her search for positive emotions, much hilarity ensues

Animation : Mix of normal and very good, but there are some excellent colour overlays or washes that add something unusual and keep you glued to the screen

Plot Potential: It sound like an amazing plot, but in the first episode they do not get started, Update in the second episode the plot hits nice and hard and the whole thing gets darker End Update

Characters: The charters are an interesting mix of stock stereotypes warring with what looks like a interesting plot (if they would only get down to it)

Music: Nothing of note

Reminds me of: somewhere between Saikano and Mahoromatic

Overall: After a bit of gratuitous nudity, and pantie fan service, this seemed to settle down in to the standard “super powered girl taught by a kindly young man” anime, i’ll watch it for the next few weeks while the visual effects are still something new, lets hope the plot picks up, the only thing that did confuse me is the fact that the main male character has unexplained woman’s clothes in his house
