Association
1. Group of individuals who unite together for business purposes. 2. In psychology, the connection of remembered feelings, emotions, sensations, thoughts, or perceptions with certain persons, ideas, or situations.
Association (also known as Pool, Syndicate)
An organization of insurers or reinsurers through which pool members underwrite particular types of risks with premiums, losses, and expenses shared in agreed amounts. Associations may be voluntary or involuntary if mandated by insurance laws.
Association captive
Captives that underwrite the risks of members of an industry or trade association.

Association for Electronic Health Care Transactions (AFEHCT)
Organization that promotes efficient, secure, and cost effective health information data exchanges in an open electronic environment using industry standards. Web site: www.afehct.org .
Association for Integrity of Healthcare Documentation (AIHD)
Organization established in 1978 as part of an effort to achieve recognition for the medical transcription profession; formerly known as American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT). Vision: To direct the evolution of the medical transcription profession. Mission: To advance and represent the profession of medical transcription through the promotion of quality health care documentation. Purpose: To set and uphold standards for education and practice in the field of medical transcription that ensure the highest level of accuracy, privacy, and security of health care documentation for the U.S. health care system to protect public health, increase patient safety, and improve quality of care for health care consumers. Goals and Objectives: Medical transcriptionists are provided the tools to ensure accuracy, privacy, and security of health care documentation to improve patient safety and quality of care through the following objectives: Participate in the development of health care documentation standards to protect consumer privacy and security of medical information; advocate for legislation and regulations that protect the public’s health care information; set standards of education and practice for the medical transcription profession.
Association group
Group insurance provided to a trade or business association by which all members are protected under one master contract.
Association of Average Adjusters
An association of independent practitioners. It sets examinations for those engaged in marine insurance as average adjusters. Founded in 1869, it promotes the correct principles in the adjustment of Averages and uniformity among Average Adjusters? The association’s expert committees serve the marine insurance community, and may, by a panel of referees, act as arbitrators in the case of dispute. All members are practising average adjusters. Association of British Insurers (ABI)
The trade association for insurance companies, whose 400 members transact 95 per cent of the business of UK insurers. It speaks out on issues of common interest, participates in debates on public policy issues and promotes high standards of service. Its policy work centres on: general insurance, life and pensions, financial regulation, taxation and investment affairs. It has expert committees and represents the industry externally, involving central government, media affairs, European and international activities. (www.abi.org.uk).
Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA)
Trade association for independent financial advisers (IFAs). It is the key point of contact between the IFA community and the FSA. AIFA’s principal objective is to influence the nature and shape of policies affecting its members. It also monitors the regulatory and political issues and keeps members informed as to how those issues will affect them.
