Self administered trustee plan (Pensions)
A retirement plan administered by a trustee. In this type of plan, the trustee receives the contributions, invests the money received, collects the profits, and pays benefits to the employees eligible to receive them.
Self damage
Actual damage to the insured item from internal rather than external causes. It features in some engineering insurance policies.
Self funded plan (Health Insurance/Life Insurance)
A plan wherein eligible claims are paid by an employer, rather than by an insurer. This is usually only done in the case of an employer whose claim costs remain fairly steady and easy to predict.
Self inflicted injury (Health Insurance)
An injury the insured has inflicted upon him or herself.

A special case of planned retention-not Insurance. Exposures must be numerous enough for the loss experience o be fairly predictable.
Self insured retention (SIR)
The fraction of a risk that the insured assumes him or herself. This fraction may be the deductible, it may be the uninsured portion, or it may be self-insured.
