Recertification

1. Renewal of certification after a specified time. 2. For home health plan recertification, physician receives, reviews, adjusts treatment; documents the plan in coordination with the care of the home health agency; and then bills for this subsequent plan adjustment. Recipient

1. Person certified by the local welfare department to receive the benefits of Medicaid under one of the specific aid categories. Also referred to as a client . 2. Individual certified to receive Medicare benefits. Also referred to as a beneficiary, dependents, enrollee, member, participant, or subscriber .

Reciprocity

MEDICAL,USA: 1. Mutual exchange of privileges or services. 2. In the Medicaid program, it applies to an individual who obtains medical services while out of the state in which he or she receives benefits. 3. In managed care plans, a member may receive treatment for illness or injuries from another prepaid plan while out of state.

REINSURANCE: A mutual exchange of reinsurance between two or more companies.

UK: Exchange of reinsurance business between reinsurers. Each accepts the cessions from the other to stabilise the accounts or reduce costs. Direct insurers may also enter into exchanging its home business with an equivalent amount of foreign business from another direct insurer. The reciprocity could be 100 per cent or a proportion of the business.

REINSURANCE: Practice of requiring incoming Reinsurance in ex-change for Reinsurance ceded or vice versa based on either premium to premium or profit to profit.

UK: the practice of requiring inwards reinsurance business in exchange for reinsurance ceded, the cedant only offering a share of its reinsurance to a reinsurer able and willing to offer suitable reinsurance business in return.

Reconsideration (recon)

1. In the Medicare program, after payment or denial of an insurance claim, this is the second level of appeal. 2. First level of appeal process for an individual applying for SSDI or SSI. It is a complete review of the claim by a medical or psychological consultant/disability examiner team who did not take part in the original disability determination.

Reconstructive surgery

Plastic surgery performed to improve physical function and lessen disfigurement from an accident or injury, birth defect, burn, or disease. Difference between reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery is that the latter is considered elective and done for aesthetic reasons. See cosmetic surgery .
