Nonprofit federation of affiliated state health organizations, together representing more than 10,000 nonprofit and for-profit assisted living, nursing facility, developmentally disabled, and subacute care providers that care for more than 1.5 million elderly and disabled individuals nationally. AHCA represents the long-term care community to the nation at large—to government, business leaders, and the general public. It also serves as a force for change within the long-term care field, providing information, education, and administrative tools that enhance quality at every level. At its Washington, D.C., headquarters, the association maintains legislative, regulatory, and public affairs, as well as member services staffs that work both internally and externally to assist the interests of government and the general public, as well as member providers.

AHIMA offers educational services and professional certifications for coding and sponsors some compliance educational seminars.
American Hospital Association (AHA)
Organization formed in 1913 to advance the health of individuals and communities through leading, representing, and serving health care provider organizations that are accountable to the community and committed to health improvement. AHA maintains the central office on ICD-9-CM, answers coding questions, and publishes the Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM . AHA hosts the National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC), which has a formal consultative role under HIPAA.
American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters, Inc.
An insurance educational organization which establishes insurance standards and fosters educational work. Properly qualified individuals who pass a series of examinations given by this body receive the designation Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter.

National voluntary association of certified public accountants.
American Institute of Marine Underwriters
A New York-based association of marine underwriters. They discuss problems common to their business and operate many technical committees that produce marine forms and clauses.
American Insurance Association
A group of property and liability insurance companies that promotes the standing of its members.
American Lloyds
Unincorporated associations of individual underwriters who assume specified portions of liability under each policy issued. There is no connection with Lloyd’s of London.

American Medical Association (AMA)
National professional society of physicians formed in 1847 that develops and promotes medical practice, research, and education on behalf of patients and physicians. The AMA publishes the Physician’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code book and maintains the coding system. AMA is the secretariat of the National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC), which has a formal consultative role under HIPAA.
