We are now pitched in a marina sitting looking at the river Moselle and Germany. I even found a good quality Lawson whiskey at £8.00 a bottle, Despite the weather its going to be a good night, David Attenborough on the c.d. player, apple cakes in the fridge. Its a hard life being a old retired codger.

We are on a site beside the river in Charleville Mezieres which is in the Ardennes. We had a good ferry crossing, which was strange for us with using the tunnel for the last 7 years, Ferries seem so slow. But they are cheap. Tom Tom then took us through Belgium (because the motorways are free) The van is running great we have done 500 miles at a average 29 mpg thats better than our Zafira used to do.

I’m very concerned about Wendy she has grown hairs on her feet.

Well just 2 days before we are off on this years big trip (yahoooo). The camper is all but ready, it just needs fresh water and the fridge / freezer filling. So that leaves us a day and a half to clean and prepare the house for leaving for 3 months. We are going Dover – Dunkerque booked with the caravan club at a amazing £48 return.

We will have 2 days in France, then picking up the river Moselle on the Luxemborg boarder. We hope to follow the river downstream till it joins the Rhine at Koblenz. This is one of Germanys main wine areas (yippy). Then turning to follow the Rhine up river all the way to Lake Constance, through the Alps to Austria then Italy and if possible to meet our friends from the North Yorks Lotus club in Brescia for the start of the Milli Miglia. Then the lakes and back up through the Bavarian Alps to join the river Main back down to the Rhine, and retrace our journey back to the channel, then to Bristol for our 40th wedding
anniversary, and finally back to Stamford for a weekend with Buzz and Lynda.

We have just spent 3 days at a 5 van certified location on a farm on the south downs between Eastbourn and Beachy head.

On a very still day we had a fantastic walk along the south downs way from Eastbourn via beachy head over the seven sisters to Westdean, and the bus back. A very good walk but a lot of ups and downs for a old Lincolnshire couple

Eastbour is a lovely large town with a fantastic promenade, gardens,smart hotels and a pier. The area is exceptionally clean and tidy, no rubbish or vandalism. But the best thing is the vast number of memorial benches all along the front, ideal for coffee breaks and lunches somewhere we will visit again.
