New Anime Series: Unbreakable Machine Doll

First Episode(s) Review for: Unbreakable Machine Doll
Summary:

A boy and his “doll” (a full size and life like robotic girl complete with wedding day dreams) arrives at a Hogwarts style school that specialises in the robotic battle arts, he burns with the desire to become the most powerful ‘puppeteer’ so that he can reek revenge on someone (we don’t know who yet)

Animation:

This is a standard very well draw anime, of the type they produce when “England” is in some way involved, smokey and full of filtered light

Plot Potential:

I was surprised to find that the hero is rated as completely naff in the school, no naturally talented, no hidden powers, providing they don’t reveal too much too soon this should be good, also as the advanced dolls are sentient, the possible variety of characters is huge

Music:

not bad, not up to the visual side, but not bad

Reminds me of:

Gosick + Angelic Layer

Overall:

A really watchable series, i really hope its ongoing, its based on a 12 volume series so i hope it goes on for at least 26 episodes

New Anime Series KILL la KILL

First Episode(s) Review for: KILL la Kill
Summary:

A teenage girl armed with one half of a giant pair of scissors turns up as a transfer student to a very freaky school run town, on the hunt for her fathers killer, only to find out he has left her a magical school uniform with secret powers even it if is cut a bit on the skimpy side

Animation:

Crude but very dynamic, normally not my style to have it this crude but the number of little touches included, stops it from feeling slap dash

Plot Potential:

Not sure, due to the speed of the action they have managed to get though enough plot for a 12 episode Anime by the third episode, so I’m interested to see where they go with it.

Music:

title and Ending themes are OK, fight scenes are excellent, but nothing that you would put on your MP3 player

Reminds me of:

hard to say, sort of a sailor moon for the caffeine fuelled generation drawn by a pervert in a hurry

Overall:

Very entertaining and fast moving with some ridiculous tongue in cheek fan service fan service

New Anime Series- Haiyore Nyariko

First Episode Review for: Haiyore Nyariko

Summary : Well basically all the gods of the Cthulhu Mythos are actually aliens and some of them are good guys (space cops) and are living on earth disguised as cute teenage girls, GOD I LOVE ANIME!!

Animation : A great mix of styles from a acceptable plain cell style to a seriously detailed dark style (hence the 2 screen shots)

Plot Potential: I don’t care if it has a plot (which is Lucky as I cant see any sign of one), as I’m to busy trying to follow all the ‘in jokes’ regarding Lovecraft’s works and RPG’s

Characters: The characters have diddly squat to do with their Lovecraft originals, and this is far more a re skinned “alien girl comes to earth” than anything else

Music: Nothing to speak off, I cant even remember the opening theme and its only 10 mins into the anime!

Reminds me of: To Love-Ru feels just about the same

Overall: I had been really looking forward to a Lovecraft themed anime, and was disappointed when the terrible flash style version Haiyore! Nyaruko-san came out
, this is the anime I was really waiting for and it is very happily received, though I’m sure that a pure lover of H.P. Lovecraft’s works would be rolling in their grave

New Anime Series- Ginga e Kickoff

First Episode Review for: Ginga-e-Kickoff

Summary : A lad who loves Football (soccer) but can’t play it for toffee is the last person on a dissolved team and starts the hunt to make a new team.

Animation : Slightly washed out single tone cell animation, nothing partially wrong with it but a bit “low rent”

Plot Potential: This looks like another underdogs rise to meet the challenge job,

Characters: Strangely enough given that I was not enjoying this anine (I hate football), the characters were not that bad, the main character was the weakest of them

Music: The opening theme was quite rousing, with low key stirring music in the back ground throughout

Reminds me of: A much naffer (or comedy version) of Knight in the Area

Overall: I made it though this anime teeth gritted, there is nothing hugely wrong in it, but the subject matter combined with the lack of anything outstanding makes it in my opinion one to miss
