Transplant

Surgical procedure that involves removing tissue or a functional organ from either a deceased or living individual (donor) and implanting it in a patient (recipient) that needs a functional organ to replace their nonfunctional one. Also called transplant surgery .

Transportation services

Escort service that provides carrying usually older adults from one place to another such as appointments for medical services. These services accommodate persons in wheelchairs and persons with other special needs. Such services include buses, shuttle vans, taxis, and volunteer drivers.

Trauma

Trauma center

Medical facility that gives emergency and specialized intensive care to critically ill and severely injured patients due to a major catastrophic event with services provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Generally an emergency department does not have the specialized capabilities and critical patients may need to be transferred to a trauma center for a higher level of care.

Travel insurance

Type of insurance that covers trip cancellation, trip interruption, lost luggage, and default protection (trip cancellation because an airline or tour company is no longer in business).
