present on admission (POA)
Diagnosis present at the time of the inpatient admission. It can include conditions known at the time of admission, present at admission but not diagnosed until later, and conditions that develop during outpatient encounters such as emergency department, observation, or outpatient surgery. Present value
UK: Current value of future payments. It is calculated by deducting an amount for interest, and taking account of how likely it is that the money will be paid. Also called capitalised value.

MEDICAL,USA: For future stream of payments, a lump sum amount that, if invested on a certain date (evaluation date), together with interest earnings, would be enough to meet each of the payments as they fell due. At the time of the last payment, the invested fund would be exactly zero.

Interest rate factor for determining the present value of a sum in the future. A formula is used to obtain this number.
present-on-admission (POA) indicator
Code, eighth digit, that is attached to the diagnostic code required for reporting Medicare inpatients’ claims for specific types of conditions. It is to be reported on the UB-04 claim form in diagnostic coding fields 67 and 67A-Q. For electronically transmitted claims, the POA is reported in loop 2300, data element H101, which should contain the letters “POA” followed by the assigned value for the code. Preserved benefits/pension
Benefits granted to an occupational pension scheme member on leaving before normal pension age based on benefits already earned. The benefits are ‘frozen’ and become payable when the member retires. In the case of a contracted out scheme the preserved pension must be in accordance with the guaranteed minimum pension and be transferable.
Preservice appeal
