Painter: Dultoriminis
Model(s): Sabre Strike Tank and Armoury and the top half of a first edition Squat Commander
Paint(s): Chaos Black (spray), Leadbelcher (spray), Thousand Sons Blue, Caliban Green, Rakarth Flesh, Grey Seers, White Scar, Abaddon Black, Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Leadbelcher, Necron Compound, Averland Sunset, Bugmans Glow, Cadian Fleshtone, Tau Light Ochre, Rhinox hide, Mornfang Brown, Skrag Brown, Seraphim Sepia, Drakenhof NightShade, Druchi Violet, Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, Kislev Flesh.
Method(s):
- Base metal (rusty/aged look) – start by spraying the whole tank Chaos Black , once dry spray the whole thing again Leadbelcher, once dry wash the whole thing with Nuln Oil, leaving plenty of drying time, wash again, this time with Agrax Earthshade allow plenty of drying time, finally dry brush the whole thing with Necron Compound.
- Armour plating – base with a 1:1 mix of Thousand Sons Blue and Caliban Green, wash with Agrax Earthshade but only in the recesses and around rivets, take your base colour mix and add White Scar at a ratio of 2:1 and use this as the highlight colour (this can also be used for any scratches and scuffs), when doing this take your base mix and add Abaddon Black at a ratio of 3:1) now with the scratches you want the highlight mix and lowlight mix painted in parallel to give the illusion of deep scratches. (armour colour also applies to little guy sticking out)
- Armour trim – base with 2:1 mix of Rakarth Flesh and Grey Seers, wash around rivets only with Agrax Earthshade, highlight and scratches done with 1:1 mix of Grey Seers and White Scar. ( same applies to armour trim of little guy).
- Lights/lenses – base Mephiston Red, layer Evil Sunz Scarlet leaving recesses, dot White Scar in top corner, and paint a thin line in opposite corner to give illusion of lenses flare.
- Hazard plates – base Averland Sunset, use transfers or freehand hazard signs, as before wash the bolts only with Agrax Earthshade.
- Heated metal on gun barrels – starting from the barrel end wash Drakenhof NightShade, Druchi Violet and Seraphim Sepia.
- Rust – paint random patches of Rhinox hide ( try to think about where water would pool if it rained), inside the Rhinox hide paint Mornfang Brown covering about 1/3 or the Rhinox hide, paint Skrag Brown in small dots within the Mornfang Brown.
- Skin – base Bugmans Glow, layer Cadian Fleshtone leaving the recesses, highlight Kislev Flesh. for beard paint Tau Light Ochre and wash with Agrax Earthshade.
Notes: You may ask why spray Chaos Black and then Leadbelcher? the answer to this is that you get a richer and smoother metallic colour than if you skipped the chaos black.
